Donald Trump has been in office 1 year, 96 days, 21 hours and 42 minutes as I write this sentence. My heart and my sense of country is heavy with sadness and doubt.
I’ve been interested in politics since my senior year of high school. I had a teacher than really impressed upon me the importance of knowing your rights as a citizen of the USA. I have never felt as proud of my status as an American until I entered her classroom. She changed my world. I will forever be grateful to her opening my eyes to the world around me. Thank you Ms. Snively! Continue reading “Hope, Faith, Country”
One month ago.
It’s been one month since 17 people lost their lives to yet one more school shooting.
Since 2012, 7000 students have lost their lives in school shootings. Let that sink in. That’s just five years. That’s a blink in time. 7000 lights have been snuffed out.
No progress to stop it has been made…until now.
Today, children all over the US participated in a 17 minute walk out. They have had enough. They are not being protected by the adults put in place to protect them, so they’re taking matters into their own hands. Continue reading “#NationalWalkOut #ISupportYou”
Why do I torture myself?
Why do I intentionally read about current events that I know will enrage me?
I’ll tell you why, because I’d rather be inform than be ignorant. I think many public officials should learn that lesson.
I feel like we’re being thrown so much sensationalism that we’re losing what truth is and used to be. We can no longer trust the words written and said because we can’t trust the people that provide the information. Continue reading “We the People, All people…”
In wanting to try and have some sense of normalcy so that I don’t completely lose my mind I’m here to bring you my favorite podcast of the week!
I actually listen to this religiously every week. It helps me to feel informed. There isn’t any propaganda. It is strictly facts from a moderate stand-point.
The podcast is Abe Lincoln’s Top Hat with Ben Kissel and Marcus Parks!
It’s the only political podcast I’ve been able to find that stays in the middle. It speaks to me because I am a moderate Liberal. I’m fed up with Washington, with politicians and with the excuses and so are the hosts.
They talk about what is happening all over the country and all over the world. The discussions can get heated but never become personal. That is something we have lost as a society. They ability to converse without feeling like we’re being personally attacked. This happens on both sides so please don’t accuse me of choosing one side over the other. They both carry the blame and in the same breath can both provide a solution.
If you’re into politics or not and are looking for information without rhetoric then I definitely recommend you check out Abe Lincoln’s Top Hat.
New shows post every Friday on wherever you get your podcast! You can also check them their Facebook group.
I just had a wonderful talk with an old friend. We used to work together and I remember having the best conversations with him. We could talk politics, he leans more right, but we respected each other and I always felt that I was learning something from him.
It got me thinking though, has this country always been so divided? I know we’ve always had differing views amongst people, but has it always been so personal? Has it always been that people are unwilling to think or learn anything that differs from their current beliefs?
Are we, as a species, so afraid to grow that we intentionally create animosity toward anyone or anything that is different from us? Continue reading “Perspective”
