#BookReview -The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev

Ria Parkar is Bollywood’s favorite Ice Princess–beautiful, poised, and scandal-proof–until one impulsive act threatens to expose her destructive past. Traveling home to Chicago for her cousin’s wedding offers a chance to diffuse the coming media storm and find solace in family, food, and outsized celebrations that are like one of her vibrant movies come to life. But it also means confronting Vikram Jathar.

Ria and Vikram spent childhood summers together, a world away from Ria’s exclusive boarding school in Mumbai. Their friendship grew seamlessly into love–until Ria made a shattering decision. As far as Vikram is concerned, Ria sold her soul for stardom and it’s taken him years to rebuild his life. But beneath his pent-up anger, their bond remains unchanged. And now, among those who know her best, Ria may find the courage to face the secrets she’s been guarding for everyone else’s benefit–and a chance to stop acting and start living.

Rich with details of modern Indian-American life, here is a warm, sexy, and witty story of love, family, and the difficult choices that arise in the name of both.

I received this e-book from NetGalley and Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review.

I finished this book about a month ago. It was a fast read and I needed a distraction in the doctor’s offices I frequent more and more as I get father into my pregnancy.

While the book is a nice stand alone romance I was really hoping for more insight into India and the Bollywood industry. Almost the entire book takes place in Chicago and only has minor flashbacks to times in India but no real description other than conversations.

Ria is plagued by the abandonment she feels after her father dies when she is 18. She thinks because of her mother’s mental illness that caused her mother to set house that her father was burdened with raising her and after he dies she should become an actress to put her mother in a facility that can watch her. I’m not really sure where these feelings come from and you only learn why she feels this way toward the very end of the book. I would have preferred this info at the beginning.

I keep having to search my mind for something that really stands out in this story and I can’t seem to find anything.

Boy and girl grow up liking eachother, girl has perceived family obligation that for some reason leads her to leave said boy and break his heart. Reunion at cousin’s upcoming wedding causes old feelings to emerge both of love and hate. In the end love wins out.

Very cookie cutter story that I honestly didn’t think about again once I finished reading it.

It wasn’t a bad story but wasn’t anything to get excited about either.

I’m going to say it’s good for a light read or something by the pool or just to pass the time.

Cole would go before the Council and present his case, and the Council would release him to the Foundation’s custody for further training. Case closed.

But this time everything goes horribly wrong, jeopardizing the very core of the Pack and threatening to expose Diego’s carefully protected secrets and the past he has so carefully tried to forget.

The past won’t be ignored any longer. Continue reading “#BookReview – Uncivil Wars (BB#2) by Wendi Kelly & Deborah Dorchak”
